What's Up With Peter Lavelle's Treatment of Ilana Mercer?

Earlier this week EPJ contributing columnist Ilana Mercer appeared on RT's show Crosstalk, which is hosted by Peter Lavelle. After seeing an earlier edition of Crosstalk, I gave Lavelle and the show an enthusiastic endorsement. But, a funny thing happened on the way to Ilana's participation on the show.

Lavelle provides brief but detailed background introductions of the two other guests appearing on the show with Ilana, when he gets to Ilana, he merely states that she is a paleo-libertarian journalist and writer. He fails to mention her important book, Into the Cannibal's Pot: Lessons for America from Post-Apartheid South Africa. Thomas DiLorenzo has said of the book, "If you want to witness the end result of what in America is called 'divesity,' you must read Into the Cannibal's Pot."

Lavelle then goes on to explain that "Crosstalk rules apply, you can jump in anytime." But during the entire show whenever  Ilana attempts to, well, crosstalk, Lavelle steps in and stops her, giving off the subtle impression she is being rude. In reality, Peter is the one that appeared to come off rude.

  2. I can only think that the russian government, like every government, wanted a bit of Mandiba's sugar coating to rub off on them.

  3. Ilana did very well, I'm impressed by her refusing to be silenced by the rude host...I'll be tracking him closely for a chance to critique!

  4. I agree Ilana did do very well. She made her points despite the host/producer's efforts to minimize her impact. I do believe, Lavelle did a very good nervous bumbling Peter Lorre impression though. If that whole TV magazine moderator thing doesn't work out...I'm just sayin'...
