Allen Iverson, Who Earned Over $200 Million During His NBA Career, Is Broke

Bossip.com reports:
Allen Iverson went from globally-adored NBA icon to broke, divorced, exiled sports tragedy struggling to afford a McDouble. Known as the face of a generation, A.I. earned over $200 million during his 15-year NBA career and blew it all.

    1. 4 time scoring champ, MVP, 10 time allstar, 3 time all-nba first team, 2 time all star game MVP, Olympian, league leader in steals 3 times. and to top it off, he has several millions coming to him when he turns 55 in a trust fund. Easy retirement.. Pathetic? let me get you a mirror sir.

No, it's still pathetic. He blew 200 million, so what makes you think that pocket change of several millions will last? He's an idiot that happened to be a ball hog that shot the ball a thousand times per game. His defense? LOL. Just a thug.

    3. You make a good point Richie, plus there's the fact he never won a championship.

He was physically good enough to be able to demand the ball at a professional level but not quite smart enough to actually make the players around him better(unlike Michael Jordan) so they could win a championship.

He's the Warren Moon of the NBA.

Say what you want about his style, but he was a force, and has several milllion more coming which is more than youll ever have guys. He's an icon that will be remembered, whereas you both, most likely not have 1/100th of the impact.

    5. Nick,
You could say the exact same thing about Kobe Bryant and he's got 5 rings and has been to the Ship seven times.

It takes more than talent to win the big one. You need a team and you need a pretty lucky year to stay healthy for 82 games plus playoffs.

    6. A lot of people will point to his high number of shots taken and his low percentage, but missed in that is the intangible of his drawing multiple defenders to him so that when he did miss a teammate could have an easy put-back. Better his low percentage and what it did for his team, than a high percentage that doesn't help his team. So, yes he did make his teammates better, and while not winning a championship he did get his team there.

Well me obviously not being an NBA player, you are of course correct. It's amazing though how you go ad hominem in a discussion about a b-ball player and his relative(or lack thereof depending on the metrics) success in the game, which has nothing to do with whether I was a NBA player or not. So is no one allowed to comment on other fields if not directly participating?

I agree with you, I am not a big fan of Kobe's game, but he still found a way to win the big game and used his teammates/& made them better.

Iverson simply was never able to do the same. I suppose you could make the argument that he never had a surrounding cast in his prime, but Iguodala and Webber are both serious talents.

I think the shooting % Anon @ 3:54 alludes to is a major contributing factor, and it doesn't tell the whole story of just how lacking Iverson was at times(streaky) on the perimeter as a staple of his game was his cross over for layups and general quickness for easy buckets.

So he earned (and wasted) millions playing basketball. Ok. And yes, he earned more than I'll ever earn. So what? How is that even relevant? Are you saying that because he earned millions (and blew it), he is beyond reproach?

Allen Iverson and I have won the same number of championships. Some icon he is.

  6. "He's pathetic"

Anyone who says that has a serious case of envy. Okay he blew money, ALONG WITH MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WHO ARE ALSO IN BANKRUPCY AND BROKE. and btw, barkley, ewing, stckton, malone, etc dont have rings, are theyy bad players. HELL NO. and one more thing. if he made alot of money, HE GAVE OVER A MILLION TO CHARITY so I would say the impact is felt throughout the world. Remember one thing guys, people all over the world recognize him and will still pay to get a glimpse of him, but your on a blog posting your opinions when you could have made that impact. I dont undestand the hatred for this man.
