DONE: NYC Mayor's Wife Hires Al Sharpton's Confidant

Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, have announced that she has hired Rachel Noerdlinger, a longtime aide to Rev. Al Sharpton, at a salary of $170,000, to be her chief of staff. NYC taxpayers will pick up the tab.

The announcement was made at  Sharpton's National Action Network headquarters.

"She's bringing in a great chief of staff to help her," de Blasio told reporters.

Sharpton sought to deflect criticism that he will have a conduit to the mayor's office through Noerdlinger.

"It's not about me having access. I've had access to every mayor in the last 30 years, other than Giuliani," Sharpton said. "We need it for people that have not had access to City Hall. … No one has made us prouder than Rachel Noerdlinger."

  1. $170,000 ?

Fitting this post is above the post that shows NYC to be the most expensive city in the U.S.

  3. Why would a mayor's wife (or husband) get a chief of staff....or any other "aides"
or assistants on the taxpayer's dime? We now have mayoral royalty?
