Are We Just Lumps of Clay In The Consummate Leader's Hands?

By, Chris Rossini

In 1890, a couple of decades before becoming President of The United States, Woodrow Wilson wrote an essay titled Leaders of Men. Yes...the title itself indicates that this essay is nothing but trouble.

Wilson gave a clear analogy as to what the masses really were in his mind:
“Men are as clay in the hands of the consummate leader.”
The leader, Wilson wrote, is the engine that makes the world go 'round:
The competent leader of men cares little for the internal niceties of other people's characters: he cares much - everything - for the external uses to which they may be put...He supplies the power; others supply only the materials upon which that power operates.
So we are the "materials"...or "clay"...and the leader decides our "external uses".

Freedom in "the land of the free" was over Wilson said:
“[W]hile we are followers of Jefferson, there is one principle of Jefferson’s which no longer can obtain in the practical politics of America. You know that it was Jefferson who said that the best government is that which does as little governing as possible...But that time has passed. America is not now and cannot in the future be a place for unrestrained individual enterprise.”
Has this view changed over the last 100 years?

Well let's see:

In his 1996 State of the Union Address, President Bill Clinton proclaimed that "the era of big government is over." However he clarified the blatant lie by ensuring everyone that freedom in the "land of the free" was not going to return: "but we cannot go back to the time when our citizens were left to fend for themselves. We must go forward as one America, one nation working together, to meet the challenges we face together." In other words, 'don't get too excited. We're still going to mold you'.

George W. Bush called himself "The Decider", and said "I'm the decider, and I decide what is best."

And it's more than obvious that Obama is cut from the exact same cloth.

So are we really just lumps of clay, waiting to be molded by the consummate leaders?

Of course not.

Does the government still hold the view that we are?

Of course.

  2. Life on this planet has been in a perpetual state of misery ever since man decided he could do a better job of governing his actions than God. No form of human government ever has or ever will escape the effects of human corruption & wickedness. Even America's founding fathers said that the system of government they established was incapable of governing a godless & immoral people.
