Owners' Equivalent Rent Is Soaring

Owners' equivalent rent is obtained by directly asking sampled homeowners the following question: "If someone were to rent your home today, how much do you think it would rent for monthly, unfurnished and without utilities?"

Over the last few months, OER inflation has been at its highest levels since the beginning of 2008. Also, lodging away from home gave a boosting overall shelter inflation.

  1. Jerry Wolfgang says there's no inflation (or at least it's where the Fed wants it to be). Why can't you just accept it?
