OUTRAGE Rand Paul Comes Down on the Side of Neocons on Ukraine

Rand Paul today issued the following statement in reaction to the developing situation in Ukraine:

We live in an interconnected world and the United States has a vital role in the stability of that world. The United States should make it abundantly clear to Russia that we expect them to honor the December 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which the U.S., Russia, and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their commitment "to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine." Russia should also be reminded that stability and territorial integrity go hand in hand with prosperity. Economic incentives align against Russian military involvement in Ukraine. Russia, which has begun to experience the benefits of expanded trade with World Trade Organization accession, should think long and hard about honoring their treaty obligations and fostering the stability that creates prosperity for its citizens. Most importantly, Russian intervention in Ukraine would be dangerous for both nations, and for the rest of the world.
Relative to the Budapest Memorandum. America Thinker points out:
Interesting that both sides have apparently violated the agreement already, which in diplomacy usually means that the agreement would no longer be in effect.
The US has been obviously meddling in the affairs of Ukraine  and it is simply outrageous to think that the US should play any role in the affairs of the Ukraine. Ukraine is some 5,000 miles away from the US. It is no military threat, or any other threat, to the US and it sits on the border of Russia. For absolutely no good reason, the US is provoking the Russian Bear. For Rand to come down on the side of the neocon provocateurs in this situation tells you more about Rand then any of his other statements combined. MSM has long gotten the message that Rand is okay (SEE: Morning Joe: ”Rand Paul is singing my song! I love what he’s saying.”) and with the above statement from Rand we can clearly see why. He is one of them. A man for, and of, the Empire.

  1. the only reason DC is in the Ukraine is to annoy the Russians, as if Angela Is going to guarantee another dirt poor corrupt outfit.

  3. I see Rand's statement as more of a mealy-mouthed politician's statement that we've come to expect from Rand lately instead of an outright siding with the neocons. He's trying to tread a fine line where he can tell each audience he stands in front of that he's speaking for them.

  4. Is it really outrage at this point? Seems by now we should've been asking when Rand was going to side with the neocons on Ukraine.

    1. No, I guess he's up, actually.

In a month from now, the entire world will feel about Putin the same as they felt about Hitler in 1939 over Poland.

    2. Maybe, but I don't think the West's propaganda machine works as well as it once did. When the "Great War to Save Humanity from Such and Such" begins, make sure you join up and deploy.

    3. "In a month from now, the entire world will feel about Putin the same as they felt about Hitler in 1939 over Poland."

Don't make us laugh please. Almost only the media is taking the side of the U.S. and the E.U. Most other people have perfect understanding of why Russia is sending troops.
The propaganda is failing. People aren't buying it anymore. Just look at Syria.

    1. Oh yeah, if you can call that statement anti-intervention, you can call an apple a pear.

Yup. Sounds like non-interventionism to me.

  7. Guys, it really breaks my heart that your are watching too much RT (Russia Today).

RT is a good channel when it comes to discussing internal U.S. affairs, economy, internal politics, etc.

But when you see reports on Russia's international actions, such annexing Ukraine, don't forget that you are watching Putin's propaganda.

How would you feel about Hitler's 1938 invasion of Chechoslovakia?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_occupation_of_Czechoslovakia

Would you say: "ah, ok, that's German turf, no problem. We should not be meddling in the affairs of Hitler".

    1. Nice of you to ignore how the EU and the U.S. have been involving themselves in Ukraine politics in order to bring them into the EU.
Yet when Russia sees these involvements as a threat to Russian interests, among others the safety of Russian speaking people in the Eastern part of the Ukraine, you talk about "annexing".

Aside from that, the answer to your question is "NO, what is happening in the Ukraine is NOT any of the U.S. or the EU's business and we should not be meddling in their affairs.

With American and the EU sending their own military into countries where it doesn't belong (such as the Middle East and African countries like Mali), they are also *for that reason* the last ones to comment on Russia sending troops into the Ukraine.

P.S. What would you prefer we watch for "objective" reporting? CNN? MSNBC? FOX?

... and maybe even in DC too?

    3. Please don't mouth the usual absurd shibboleth about the supposed next "Hitler". It's a joke and shows how brainwashed you really are. Ironically, a large portion of the radical groups in western Ukraine you probably believe are "pro-freedom" are actually ultra-nationalist-fascist and neo-Nazi sympathizers!

Washington and the EU manipulated and ultimately destabilized Ukraine in hope of expanding NATO on Russia's borders. Everyone who was against this foreign meddling and clandestine interventions warned about the potential Russian response to an area right up against it's border.

    4. "We should not be meddling in the affairs of Hitler".

      Who is this infamous "we"?

What about "you"? Get a gun and hop on the next transport ship if you feel yourself threatened by events 10,000 miles away.

Otherwise, keep your warmongering hands to yourself.

    6. Alex, recall the recent leaked phone conversation between assistant secretary of state Victoria "F the EU" Nuland and the US ambassador to Ukraine. As usual, MSM chose to publish the sensationalized soundbite only. The FULL recording of that conversation reveals the planned coup, and who was chosen to replace Yanucovich; I believe the recording still remains on youtube.

    7. Ah its always nice to see a neocon troll come here once in awhile, we need a break from Jerry's leftwing trolling. Heres a suggestion Alex, feel free to go to Ukraine on your own dime if you buy into this "..next Hitler" bullshit

    8. For all you RT-brainwashed sceptics:

I'm a Russian living in Russia, very far from the border of Ukraine.

All I was asking for was some sympathy and understanding that my country is being ruled by a sick man.

I'm not asking for NATO troops in Crimea, I'm asking for sanity and understanding. At least for not shaking hands with the lunatic.

And also I'm asking: please stop watching RT.

Russian television makes very bad changes in people's minds - I see it every day in every one here. It's like World War Z.

    9. "And also I'm asking: please stop watching RT."

You still have to make some recommendations on better and more objective news stations.

"All I was asking for was some sympathy and understanding that my country is being ruled by a sick man. "

Every country is ruled by a sick man.

"I'm asking for sanity and understanding. At least for not shaking hands with the lunatic."

We're not shaking hands with the lunatic. We're properly seeing through the propaganda BS about what's happening in Ukraine. We are saying nothing about what is happening in Russia.

    11. "All I was asking for was some sympathy and understanding that my country is being ruled by a sick man."

Alex, I can go along with that. Why? Because ALL politicians are lunatics; Russian, American, or whatever. I don't trust ANY of them. Why the hell were Americans and Russians at each others throats for decades? Fucking politics! I say flush them all to hell and lets live without the superstition of government for once. Organize society on private law. Governments have only managed to torture, murder, impoverish, and destroy.

  8. Can we just call Rand Paul a neocon already? He obviously believes it is America's business what happens on the other side of the world. That's the sign of an imperialist. His support for sanctions on Iran can be included as well as his view that foreign aid should be cut EXCEPT for Israel (thereby making an interventionist statement about Middle East politics and events).

Just because he wants to still try to bamboozle some small government types to support him by not being as belligerent as others, does not negate his obvious pro-empire stance.
