Public Policy Polling: Mike Huckabee Leads GOP Presidential Contenders

PPP, a  firm I consider one of the best polling outfits in the country, reports:
PPP's regular look at the 2016 Presidential race really shows how important it is for the party that Hillary Clinton run in 2016. She leads Mike Huckabee 49/42 in a hypothetical contest. By contrast Joe Biden would trail Huckabee 46/41 in a hypothetical match, and Elizabeth Warren would trail 44/33. This is one of the most massive electability gaps we've ever seen.

Clinton also leads the rest of the Republican field in potential contests, although some of the match ups are pretty close. Jeb Bush is the strongest GOP hopeful, trailing by only 3 points at 47/44 and Chris Christie isn't far behind with a 4 point deficit at 46/42. Clinton leads Rand Paul and Paul Ryan each by 5 points at 47/42 and 48/43 respectively, Marco Rubio by 8 points at 48/40, and Ted Cruz by 11 points at 51/40.

There's been a lot of Mitt Romney nostalgia of late but we find little evidence his image has improved since losing the 2012 contest to Barack Obama. Romney has a 38/48 favorability rating and trails Clinton 48/43 in a hypothetical contest, slightly worse than his margin of defeat against Obama. Romney's net favorability is worse than every potential 2016 GOP contender we looked at on this poll except for Ted Cruz.

For the second time in a row Mike Huckabee leads the national Republican field for 2016. Huckabee's at 18% to 15% for Jeb Bush, 14% each for Chris Christie and Rand Paul, 11% for Ted Cruz, 6% for Marco Rubio, 5% for Paul Ryan and Scott Walker, and 4% for Bobby Jindal.

More here.

  1. “Former Secretary Clinton has dedicated her life to serving and engaging people across the world in democracy,” Bush said in a statement announcing the award. “These efforts as a citizen, an activist, and a leader have earned Secretary Clinton this year’s Liberty Medal.”
    Jeeeeeeeeb Bush.

  5. LOL. With all the compromises Rand Paul has been making in his rhetoric at least, still he can't get past Fat Bridge Boy Chris Christie and nutty theocon Mike Huckabee.

Funniest of all, the leader in the Republican race is a guy that doesn't like the constitution and wants to "fix" it. No not because it has holes that can be exploited by politicians and the supreme court, but because there is not enough Lord and Savior in it.
So much for conservative voters being pro-constitution.

This proves the point, voting is USELESS until a mentality change has taken place. America is simply not ready for a liberty candidate. Therefor the only point there is in a liberty candidate is to be principled and to educate the masses rather than sell his soul to neocons for power.

    1. I remember having a chat with an anarchist a few years ago and the subject of conservative hypocrisy came up. He simply said that small government conservatives dont exist. Its a media talking point to paint a false opposition to liberalism. Conservatives want "small government" for themselves but the jackboots of the state for everyone else.

    2. I complete agree.
As a matter of fact, i made this argument several times over the last couple of days on EPJ.
I personally think some people who call themselves conservative have bought into the false propaganda of conservatism being for small government without the historical and present day facts backing them up, but they seem to be so married to the word "conservative" that they don't want to give it up.

  6. Lovely. Another democratic 'choice' between theorcratic warmonger Huckabee and born-again neo-con Rand Paul on the right, and whatever welfare/warfare statist that the democrats will run on the left.

  7. I've said this same thing elsewhere many times. Libertarians always say they are for "legalization" of drugs. They never mention that implicit in libertarianism is the fact that you could be fired for using drugs, banned from various businesses or private neighborhoods for life for using drugs, drug tested on a daily basis by those with whom you might want to contract and/or charged 5x what non-drug users are charged for insurance, if you can get insurance at all for using drugs.

I cannot recall even the mildest attempt by libertarians at pointing out to pious religious types that they could form their own neighborhoods and schools so that their kids might never even see a druggie, thug or non-believer. And that it's no else's business if they that is their choice.

Have we made it clear to religious people (and non-religious people) that libertarianism means the end of the "culture war"? (Has anyone attempted to explain to the anti-gun crowd that they could easily live in a gun free voluntary "private" community?) ©If you like your lifestyle, you can keep your lifestyle.

No wonder that nitwit Huckabee is leading, warning everyone about us immoral hedonistic libertarians.

I see no evidence that either average people or our vicious statist opponents understand the simple essence and implications of the NAP. Maybe we are not explaining it properly.

  8. PPP has had disaster strike in their last several major polls. They blew the SC special election horribly, they blew the FL special election horribly, they were off by 4 or 5 points in favor of Mcauliffe in VA, and they did not release their polling on the co recall results bc it showed the two state senators were being recalled with huge levels of Dem support - so they didn't believe their own polling, which shows how weak their methodology is.
