Rand Paul Slams Cliven Bundy

Clive Bundy's comments on blacks is not a teaching moment for Rand as to the true nature of liberty, private property and libertarianism. You need to read EPJ for that: HERE WE GO Cliven Bundy: “I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro."

For Rand, ever the opportunist, he has put on his PC or libwap clothes and has jumped on the NYT attempt to muddy the nature of the only real coercion in the Bundy case, and that is the coercion by the BLM.

Rand said in a statement to Business Insider:
His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry actually put the situation in correct perspective. On  “CBS This Morning,” Perry called Bundy a “side story” in the greater issue of how the federal government deals with public and private land.

It's a shame that Rand ran with the NYT propaganda attempt to misdirect attention from what is really going on at the Bundy ranch and that the often bumbling Perry has upstaged him by keeping the proper focus on the evil actions of the BLM .

  1. I don't side with Bundy at all on anything. He's no libertarian. It is amusing that Cliven Bundy, Jesse Ventura, Alex Jones, and Ralph Nader are perfectly acceptable to Wenzel. Yet Rand Paul and Milton Friedman are one step above child molesters. This is insanity. Bundy is a crackpot. I must have missed where he was leafing through his copy of Human Action.

    1. Where do you get the idea that Jesse Ventura, Alex Jones, and Ralph Nader are "perfectly acceptable" to me? Did you listen to my interview with Ventura Grab Some Popcorn: Robert Wenzel & Jesse Ventura Debate Gay Marriage & Discrimination? But at least he has the balls to come on my show and not duck me the way Rand does.

For the record, I consider Nader a tool that can be used by the libertarian movement from time to time, but especially since, unlike Rand he isn't pretending to be a libertarian.

As for Alex Jones, he gives a lot more time on his radio show to Lew Rockwell that Rand ever gives to Lew.

And none of the above, did like Friedman and introduce income tax withholding, so what is the problem again?

    2. Rand calls himself a "libertarian republican" and then calls for sanctions on Iran and intervention in Ukraine. That is muddying libertarianism, and something libertarians must call out if they want to keep the label and it's meaning.

It's not so bad when known leftists and others take non libertarian positions.

What is wrong with Alex Jones, anyway? I thought he was pretty awesome, and hilarious, on piers Morgan.

By the way, all of those guys besides nadar pass the rothbard test (see LRC yesterday), Rand does not.

    3. Rand is correct. Bundy's statements on race are offensive. Apparently not offensive to the EPJ however.

    5. Amerika is full of pansies and brain dead morons. If anyone read his statement and used their brain (something not often done in the USSA anymore), they would have realized that his point was, are blacks in Amerika any better off being slaves to massa or slaves to uncle sam?

These idiots are too caught up in the fact he used the word negro.

Another person who gets this at least. Slavery NEVER ended people. It was only EXTENDED.

  2. It's not EPJ's job to be the PC police, nor is that of interest to his readers. Go read the regime papers, Jeff tucker, or Reason for that.

  3. Good for Rand. I agree with him on this one. Bundy has the right to say stupid racist things. No one is saying he should be banned from saying such things. If someone calls for banning his speech, that's when you come to his defense as a libertarian. Not otherwise (talking about what he said here, not the BLM thing). You don't defend his offensive statements. You rightfully criticize them. Not for violating the NAP, which they don't, but for being stupid.

Why is Rand wrong to focus on the racist rant, rather than the BLM thing? Different people, different value scales. Guess what. Most people care more about such racist rants than violations of land ownership. That's because such things are more relevant to their daily lives. We may disagree, but that's reality. Rand is just catering to his "customers."

    1. The BLM attempted to commit a violent criminal act and an unconstitutional federal act. Bundy spoke his mind and committed 0 crimes in doing so. Rand, the Federal congressman, has nothing to say about his own government's criminal activity, but races to condemn one of his own tax slaves for his constitutionally protected speech.

Some would say his priorities are mixed up, he is too busy policing our speech to protect us from government.

    2. You libertarians really need to stop throwing around the "tax slave" rhetoric. It's going nowhere; you'll be paying taxes (or skirting around them) until the day that you die. Get over it already. Even the Bible tells you to pay your taxes. Of course, I fully expect a libertarian Scripture twister to come in here and attempt to prove otherwise by taking Bible verses out of context and proclaiming his "excellent" knowledge of 2000 year old koiné Greek, while devolving his entire argument down to irrelevant etymology.

Let's reword that a little and see how stupid you are:

"You libertarians really need to stop throwing around the rhetoric for ending chattel slavery. It's going nowhere"

That's what almost everyone on Earth thought you moron until VERY recently in history. See how stupid you look now?

" I fully expect a libertarian Scripture twister to come in here and attempt to prove otherwise by taking Bible verses out of context and proclaiming his "excellent" knowledge of 2000 year old koiné Greek, while devolving his entire argument down to irrelevant etymology."

We ARE paying taxes you idiot. That doesn't mean that we can't eventually create a society without, say, the income tax. So kiss my ass with the "scripture twisting" crap.

    4. There are just too many enablers of like this Christian moron who thinks we're supposed to just shut up and not think. Meanwhile, we're just supposed to promote tyranny and evil which is ENABLED by TAXATION. Hello idiot?

    6. Tax slave. Tax slave tax slave tax slave.

      TAX SLAVE.

I'll use this (accurate) term if I want, thanks Mr. Thought Police.

    7. You're not tax slaves, just whiners. You're getting exactly what you've sown over the years; deal with it. You'll never have your tax-free/stateless society. Just another utopia in the same vein as Marxism. And no, paying taxes is not comparable to slavery. You might want to read up on what slaves actually went through before you make that comparison.

    8. what else do you call it? paying your fair share or something laughable like that?

Were you born stupid or did you have to work at it? Simple minded child, if you're unable to understand what a tax slave then please go play with the other children at the DailyKos. They'd be happy to have yet another endorser of slavery.

Oh, and one more thin. I'm not i the LEAST bit responsible for this regime. I have NEVER voted for Tweedledee or Tweedledum, probably unlike you idiot.

  5. Anon at 3:45, I have a little thought experiment for you. One of the main moral objections to slavery is the fact that slaves did not own themselves (and consequently, the fruits of their labor). Yes? Yes. But let's say a slave owner wants to be generous with his slaves. He allows them to keep 10% of what they earn. Is this arrangement still evil? What if the master allowed slaves to keep 25%? Would that still be wrong? Now what about 50 or 75%? Of course it would still be evil. The truth is that no matter how much the master allows the slave to keep, he still has the ultimate power to take as much as he wants because he claims ultimate ownership of the fruits of the slaves' labor. The same principle applies to taxes (especially the income tax). No matter how much the government "allows" us to keep, they still claim the right to take as much as they want. Ultimately, their claim to the fruits of our labor is a claim over our lives.

So yes, we will continue to use the "tax slave" term, because it is accurate.

  6. I would be happy if Business Insider would have just got the story right. They could have reported:

“His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him,” said statist, Rand Paul.

    See that wasn't hard.
