Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic challenger for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell's seat, raised more campaign funds in the first quarter of 2014 than McConnell.
Grimes raised $2.7 million in the first quarter, compared with McConnell's $2.4 million.

Well, yeah, I'm not surprised. The Dems smell blood in the water for a highly valued target; therefore, they may see it as being worth donating this much cash.
