Government Force and the Protest at McDonald's Headquarters

HuffPo is running the following photos of the protest against McDonald's, by protesters who want a higher minimum wage. The photos are obviously chosen to show the power of government force, but what the HuffPo piece doesn't tell you is that the protesters are not against government force, per se, but that they merely want the force to be directed against McDonald's.

All things considered, given we live under the control of a government that maintains power over coercion, from a libertarian perspective, McDonald's is on much stronger ground calling in the police, to protect its property, than the protesters would in calling on police to enforce a minimum wage law.

    1. I thought the same thing. I can't help but wonder what criteria these protesters used to determine that their labor is somehow unilaterally worth more than they agreed to accept. But, that is probably giving them too much credit for thinking that matter through. They seem to think that "want" = "worth".

    2. If anything, the existence of minimum wage laws probably means that these people are actually worth LESS than what they are currently making...

  2. Best response in a libertarian society would be McDonalds using their own private security force to protect their property. In that scenario there would probably be less of a chance of the private security force using unneeded force or causing violence. Of course these people should also be allowed to protest all they want, as long as they're not trespassing or causing violence.

  3. If they're worth more, they should pursue employment that pays the wage they find acceptable. If they're unable to find such employment, they should shut the hell up and be grateful they're employed in the first place. No one is forcing anyone to work at McDonald's. They can voluntarily leave their employment there and voluntarily go elsewhere.

  4. What you really need to focus on is what your local hometown police force dresses like, and the gear they utilize. Since 2001, via debt based Homeland Security money(courtesy of Helicopter Ben and now Confetti Queen Yellen) dropped across small town (and big city America) the cops have been armed to the teeth.

So today it is the Mickey D workers, tomorrow it will be you reading and posting on this message outlet they take on!

Happy Memorial Day, and God Bless AMERIKA!
