They Got Him: D’Souza Pleads Guilty

Conservative filmmaker and author Dinesh D’Souza pleaded guilty today to breaking federal law by making $20,000 in contributions in the name of others for Republican Wendy Long’s failed 2012 US Senate bid to defeat incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), reports NyPo.

“I knew that causing a campaign contribution to me made in the name of another was wrong and something the law forbids,” D’Souza told Manhattan federal Judge Richard Berman. “I deeply regret my conduct.”

Both he and his lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, declined further comment afterwards.

Under the plea deal, D’Souza — who directed the controversial flick “2016: Obama’s America” — faces 10 to 16 months behind bars when he’s sentenced Sept. 23, although Brafman is expected to seek a non-prison sentence. He also faces $250,000 in fines.

D’Souza has been a severe critic of the President. He wrote The Roots of Obama's Rage and also wrote the screen play for 2016 Obama's America.

This appears to be Obama payback.

Who is next on the Obama-Holder hit list? Ron Paul Inc. operatives? There has been a grand jury looking into parts of RPI in Washington D.C.

Also of note, D’Souza's attorney Benjamin Brafman heads the law firm that employs the attorney representing Charlie Shrem.

It appears that Brafman cases usually result in deals being cut rather than trials, though not always.

  1. Payback? He plead guilty to breaking the law. Obama didn't make him break the law.

    3. Hey Jerry, good point. History is full of Jews who broke the law. Hitler didn't make them break the law.

    4. Yes, of course, he broke the law. But how many other people that have made a political contribution in another's name have been prosecuted by Holder? Are you under the delusion that the law is applied fairly and without prejudice? Why are blacks (or The Negro as you're so fond of calling them, you racist) disproportionately represented in prisons? Is it even possible in your view that the DOJ had an additional incentive to dig into this well known critic of the Administration's background?

How many federal laws have you broken Jerry, even accidentally? Ever litter in a national park? Smoke a little MJ, perhaps? Do you really think your background is so squeaky clean that a concerted thorough search of your entire life will turn up nothing?

Should that day ever come when you are under the DOJ's microscope, we'll all just smugly proclaim "He broke the LAW!"

    6. All enforcement is selective.
If all laws were universally enforced everyone including the enforcers and guards would be in prison in the USA.

  2. On the one hand, this is obviously petty political gamesmanship.

On the other, isn't D'Souza a standard "law and order" neo-con? Doesn't he believe in jailing medical marijuana users and prostitutes and immigrants? Hard to feel too sorry for the guy...

  3. And we thought that Bush and Cheney acted like a bunch of gangsters. This bunch is even worse in my opinion. At least the Bush/Cheney axis didn't really hide their criminality. This bunch makes itself out to be do-gooders while plotting to take the shirt off of your back. I can't stand hypocrites.

    1. This is classic left-wing populist demagoguery - we see this in inner cities and Chicago...we couldn't be any more closer to the third world then we are now but I am sure the infinite wisom of the electorate will surpass even this pessimist view.

  4. Jerry's actually quite right. things have advanced a bit from the ancient adage, "if you're going have a go at the King, strike hard and deep" but make a snotty movie about him then do something stupid like this? what did think was going to happen? Did he not think the Democrats have their own turdblossums?

  5. It's all in "Three Felonies a Day", by Harvey Silverglate and Alan Dershowitz. There are so many arcane and ambiguous Federal laws that a Federal prosecutor can get anyone he wants. And the sentences are so high, you have to plead out no matter how innocent you are.

  6. Silver Lining: This will build up D'Souza's conservative/Tea Party street cred. Pretty soon you'll see conservatives resurrecting (real) rap.
