U.S. Presidents Finally Receiving Awards For Lying

By Chris Rossini

Well it's about time!

U.S. Presidents routinely get completely bogus "Freedom Medals" and Nobel Prizes. Every clear thinking individual knows that its yet another sham filled with the usual pomp and circumstance.

It appears that Presidents are finally getting legitimate rewards for skills and accomplishments that they truly have mastered: compulsive lying.

Chicago Tribune tells us that George H.W. Bush is being honored for breaking his "read my new taxes" pledge and raising taxes in 1990. The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation awarded Papa Bush the 2014 Profile in Courage Award.

Awards for lying and bulldozing the taxpayer. What an idea! I have some suggestions for future award ceremonies.

First, give out posthumous awards. There are so many spectacular lies to choose from. Americans can reminisce and celebrate the "Courage" that former Presidents have shown.

Start with Woodrow "He kept us out of war" Wilson. That was a big one. The dominoes are still falling from that lie.

Then there's FDR. He also promised not to get involved in Europe. Then there was this whopper:
...I shall approach the problem of carrying out the plain precept of our Party, which is to reduce the cost of current Federal Government operations by 25 percent....I regard reduction in Federal spending as one of the most important issues of this campaign. In my opinion it is the most direct and effective contribution that Government can make to business....I have sought to make two things clear: First, that we can make savings by reorganization of existing departments, by eliminating functions, by abolishing many of those innumerable boards and those commissions which, over a long period of years, have grown up as a fungus growth on American Government.
Truman should get a "Courage" award for throwing out the whole "Congress declares war" thing. “We are not engaged in a war, we are engaged in a police action," Truman said as he plowed into Korea. That's one heck of a lie. The dominoes are still falling from that one too.

Eisenhower should get an award for appearing like a guy that ended wars, but who was really working covertly with the CIA flipping foreign governments like hotcakes. Ever hear of the U.S. overthrow of Iran's democratically elected leader in 1953? The dominoes are still falling there as well.

Nixon? Watergate. Lies.

"Government is the problem" Reagan? He grew government like a viral weed.

Papa Bush's son George W. surely deserves a Profile in Courage Award for "I've abandoned free market principles to save the free market system".

And Barry O is racking up the credentials as we speak. First with his "You can take that to the bank" promise on ending the war, followed by the amazing string of "If you like your plan you can keep it" lies. The Guinness Book should look into the latter, if they haven't already.

Presidential Awards for Lying can be the new thing. We can all vote each year...American Idol style.

The winner gets a prestigious award.

  1. The JFK library foundation gives papa B an award. That is rich. I wonder if he will be laughing when he accepts it.
