NSA leaker Edward Snowden is about to get the Oliver Stone treatment, the Guardian reports.
The film will be based on the book "The Snowden Files," written by Guardian journalist Luke Harding and detailing Snowden's evolution into one of the most famous leakers in U.S. history. Moritz Borman will produce the film with Harding and other Guardian journalists serving as production and story consultants.
Stone's adaptation will compete with another Snowden film, based on the book "No Place to Hide" by Glenn Greenwald, the former Guardian columnist who was on the receiving end of Snowden's leaks. That movie will be produced by James Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Stone, who has previously called Snowden a "hero," said in a statement, "This is one of the greatest stories of our time." The director has directed movies about John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush as well as documentaries on Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.
"I'm glad to have the Guardian working with us," Stone said.

ReplyDeleteFrom the very early days, something was off and I think its all to do with Bill Binney. Why hadn't Snowden made contact or at least gotten more intimate with Bill Binney who had a Laura Poitras Doco on Stellar Wind produced way before his own revelations. Not even a reference to Binney as far as I can tell. Why not stand up and say, if you don't believe me ask Billy!!!!

DeleteYou're right- why are they using Snowden when they have a high ranking former NSA officer that says the same stuff.
If, and I hope and pray IF, Snowden is a "limited hangout" shingle (even if he is unaware of his pawn status) then I think the government and NSA/CIA miscalculated. They think they still control the narrative and that the internet hasn't disrupted their ability to control the conversation.
They are arrogant. They still don't understand the internet.
Look at how powerful LRC and EPJcom are now.

No offense to Wenzel or Lew, but you're overestimating how "powerful" LRC and EPJ are in the larger scheme of things.
