Walter Block tells CNBC anchors that the roads should be privatized. Good for him. He makes a great presentation of the position. What's particularly funny to me is that anchor Brian Sullivan is in the screen shot. He doesn't say anything, while Dr. Block makes his case, but he does seem in shock. Sullivan is pretty much a major league supporter of government intervention. The other day, he was making the case for government control of CEO salaries. The idea of privatizing roads would be way off his radar screen of what could be possible in the world. Dr. Block's type of principled presentation is exactly the type of pure libertarian position that needs to be advanced to light up firecrackers under the likes of Sullivan.
Email CNBC and tell them you enjoyed the piece. They are desperate for eyeballs these days. If they think Prof. Block brings more eyeballs to CNBC, they will book him again. I can't wait until they have Block back to discuss Defending the Undefendable and Defending the Undefendable II: Freedom in All Realms.

You know, the first thing that popped into my head in watching this interview when the women asked Block about the costs of toll roads, was "Why couldn't they be corporate sponsored?"
ReplyDeleteSeriously, we have "Bank of America" stadium(ok, bad crony choice, but you get the point), why not Bank of America highway or even better, what if the highway had billboards all along them of several "sponsors" that made travel free or at least reduced the cost.
Kind of like the Amazon model of Kindle's with or without advertising...with the appropriate price.
Anyway, Block does a great job.
