The California State Senate passed legislation Thursday night that would, in most cases, require law enforcement and other government agencies to get a warrant before gathering information with an unmanned aircraft, reports CBS-Bay Area.
The bill passed the Senate with bipartisan 28-6 support. Unfortunately the bill comes with a number of exceptions that allow agencies to use drones for their “core mission” so long as the missions don’t involve criminal investigations.
The oppressive state should be slowed and hampered in every way, not only in criminal investigations, but I'll take this minor impediment for the state as a small step in the right direction.
