Proud to be an American: What Should It Mean?

Richard Ebeling emails:

I have a new article on the news and commentary website, “EpicTimes,” on “Proud to be an American: What Should It Mean?”

For over two hundred years, America has been a beacon and a hope for people around the world as that place where a person could have a “second chance” for opportunity, a better life, and most importantly – freedom.

America was a unique place compared to virtually the rest of the world, a place recognizing and respecting an individual’s right to his life, liberty and honesty earned and owned property. A place were neither ancient custom and political command tied anyone down to a life not of their own choosing.

But America has drifted from that ideal or the reality of that conception of “America” in many aspects of life, most especially in areas of economic liberty and personal choice.

If we are ever to be “proud to be Americans” again in the right and proper sense, we need to know how and why this change has come about, so America can be restored to its former place as a ray of hope and dreams for liberty, both for our own people and multitudes of millions around the world.

  1. I don't think this "America" ever existed. We were created on violence by conquering the previous inhabitants.
