Lew Flipping Out Over European Backing of China Created Development Bank

The Empire has some new competition.

As I have pointed out before, this is all very high level bankster stuff, but it is still fun to watch the Empire challenged in its role a supreme global financial crony operator.

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew  criticized European support for a new China-led development bank, during an Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank hearing held by the House Committee on Financial Services.

Lew questioned the new institution’s anticorruption standards and, according to WSJ,  publicly aired for the first time growing tensions between the U.S. and several of its key trans-Atlantic allies on the matter.

“Our concern has always been...will it adhere to the kinds of high standards that the international financial institutions developed,” Lew said of

“Will it protect the rights of workers, the environment, deal with the corruption issue appropriately?” Lew said when asked about fresh backing of the bank by the U.K., Germany, France and Italy.

“I hope that before the final commitments are made, anyone who would lend their name to this organization will make sure that the government is addressing [those issues],” the secretary added.
