  1. In order to sell out, one has to believe in libertarian principles in the first place.

  2. Actually, Wags, this has nothing to do with libertarianism. If Rand was truly a libertarian, he'd call for the elimination of food stamps totally. Stealing from one group to give to another is very non-libertarian, regardless of motives.

  3. I say raid the police pension fund to give food stamps to anyone who has been arrested for a non-violent drug offense.

  4. I can wonder if this un-libertarian proposal (food stamps for convicted drug users), isnt in actuality meant to be a useful tool to shock the liberals, as If we agree with them. But then cleverly point out, ( as Rand has in the past) drug use should not be an imprisonable offense if no one else is harmed. AND THEN point out, food stamps is unconstitutional theft.

That might not be such a bad strategy?

  5. Query: would you support a ban on food stamps--or any other transfer program--for an ethnic group? If Rand instead proposed that we reduce the welfare state by banning blacks from receiving food stamps, would you support it? Technically this would be shrinking rather than expanding the state. I think this is an interesting thought experiment.
