He didn't forget to turn anything on, it says it didn't have the people detection equipped because it is an ad-on that wasn't added on, and even if it did, actively accelerating towards someone disengages it. It is not a failure of the system, it is a failure of the stupid people in the video.
Actually, after reading closer, it is not even self parking that was being tested. The title of the video is misleading. The feature that was being tested was one that helps the driver avoid collisions with other cars while traveling under 30 mph. People are not cars. There is an extra ad-on that allows it to detect people and bicyclists but that wasn't installed in the car. Again, it is the fault of stupid people. They were trying to test a system they didn't have by having people stand in front of the car while accelerating. Give them a Darwin award.

ReplyDeleteA self-driving car that doesn't account for "stupid people" is a failure of the system.
Deleteexcept it's not a self-driving car. Its a self-parking car that was being accelerated, not parked.
DeleteIn other words, it wasn't being controlled by the car in this video, but by the driver.
