The Advance of Crony Trade Continues

The House has just passed the standalone fast-track trade bill.

The measure, which gives President Obama expanded trade-negotiating authority, now goes to the Senate for a vote.

The 218-208 vote to grant Obama “fast track” authority to negotiate trade deals includes the controversial 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership.

On Wednesday evening, House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) issued a statement that they were “committed to ensuring” the passage of every piece of the trade agenda.

  1. Why is it that the R's wholeheartedly support anything and everything that will seemingly benefit the D's (Obama getting dictatorial approval authority for these treaties) because the R's are already counting on being in the ones in charge after the next election? The R's never care what the policy is, just that they will be in control of it soon enough.

  2. In case anyone had any.lingering doubts, this confirms that voting, at least in federal elections is a sham.

  3. From a purely constitutional perspective, the Constitution only gave Congress the authority to ‘regulate commerce with foreign nations. Philosophically, it is dereliction of trust for the trustee to re-assign that task to a third party. If i hire a baby sitter, and he/she re-assigns that task to her friend or sister, most would be horrified, and feel betrayed.

Related to this is the concept and rule that prohibits congress from jobing out its legislative tasks to any other entity. Of course, that makes just about every alphabet federal agency that makes up regulations (in effect, the same as a law) constitutionally ILLEGAL.

“All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”
