Nobel Prize-Winning Economist: Western Financial Aid is Poisoning Poor Countries’ Future

Angus Deaton is not perfect, but he is interesting enough to listen to.

I found this a particularly  significant comment:

 I do think that very bad things are happening in the U.S., so I certainly wouldn't begin to defend it; I mean, the recent work we've been doing, for instance, has shown that there's been a large increase in mortality rates among middle-aged white people in the U.S., something that really we haven't seen for a very-very long time and it's very distressing.
