Obama to Butt In To Britain's Business

WSJ reports:
Two months before Britons decide the future of their country’s membership in the EU, Mr. Obama will make the case for European cohesion, while also allowing that the final determination should be made by voters, according to White House officials.

U.S. leaders usually steer clear of intruding on foreign elections, but Mr. Obama will voice his views on the prospect of a British exit, or “Brexit,” as polls show a virtual dead heat between the “stay” and “leave” campaigns.

Mr. Obama arrived in London late Thursday...He came with a wide-ranging agenda for talks Friday with Prime Minister David Cameron, as well as plans for a private lunch with Queen Elizabeth II and dinner with Prince William, his wife Catherine and Prince Harry....

Euroskeptic lawmakers, including London’s popular Mayor Boris Johnson, have criticized Mr. Obama’s position as meddling in British affairs. Mr. Johnson accused Mr. Obama of “outrageous and exorbitant hypocrisy” for supporting Britain’s continued membership in the bloc when Americans would never to agree to a similar arrangement.

More than 34,000 people signed a petition to Parliament calling on Mr. Obama to be banned from speaking about the issue during his stay. Last month, a group of lawmakers wrote to the U.S. president telling him any intervention would be undemocratic.

“We would certainly never think of visiting the United States and telling the U.S. public how to vote in an election or [in] the amendment of their constitution,” the letter said.

Obama and Cameron plan to hold a joint conference Friday, and both leaders are expected to field questions about the Brexit issue.

Note Well: The Empire is always in favor supranational governing bodies. The Empire always fears the independent mind and actor.

  1. I hope Brits know this national embarrassment does not speak for American people.
