Trump's Budget Scam

Mainstream media is focusing on the cuts that will be in Trump's 2018 budget that will be announced later today.

A CNN headline reads

But this is very misleading. There are some cuts. Trump is proposing to slash nondefense discretionary spending by $54 billion next year and then continue to cut funding by 2% a year for the rest the decade.

But these are more than offset by defense and homeland security spending.

The Trump budget would lift the legal spending cap on defense and add $54 billion to its topline funds for 2018. It also would increase funding for defense for every other year in the next decade relative to baseline projections.

He is also calling for $2.6 billion to be spent on border security.

In the final analysis, Trump's budget calls on Congress to spend $4.1 trillion next year. That's MORE than what is being spent this year.

Bizarrely, the front page of the budget with its higher spending is titled "A New Foundation for American Greatness." What a scam.

Oh, but don't worry, at a press conference on Monday at the White House, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said it balances in 10 years.  "It balances in the 10th year," he said.
