Missouri Set to REDUCE St. Louis Minimum Wage from $10 to $7.70

Missouri has discovered that the law of supply and demand applies to wages and that the higher you set minimum wage laws the more unemployment you get.

In response, Missouri’s governor will allow a bill to pass that rolls back St. Louis’ minimum wage from $10 back to $7.70, the standard across the state.

“Our state needs more private sector paychecks and bigger private sector paychecks,” Greitens said in a statement. “Politicians in St. Louis passed a bill that fails on both counts: it will kill jobs, and despite what you hear from liberals, it will take money out of people's pockets.”

“This increase in the minimum wage might read pretty on paper, but it doesn't work in practice. Government imposes an arbitrary wage, and small businesses either have to cut people’s hours or let them go,” Greitens said.

"Liberals say these laws help people,” Greitens said in his statement. “They don't. They hurt them.”

  1. Has a minimum wage law been rolled back before?

  2. Man this is great to read.

I find this issue so frustrating because the people who most loudly proclaim their concern for the poor also tend to most aggressively advocate banning them from working via the minimum wage.

Whenever I've attempted to impress this upon people, they generally either act offended or just shut down. It's almost like it's more important to them to signal their compassion by advocating a socially popular policy than it is to even consider that the policy might be harmful.

  3. I believe that Progessivism is mostly about virtue signaling. They generally don't care if their theories work, only that people know that they support these theories.

    1. Amen brother! It isn't about actual data or proof, it is all about signaling that you are on the right side of history.

  4. Many political issues today are pushed forward by people who think they are being compassionate, when they are merely being sentimental. Sentimentality is all (and only) about feelings, but ignores other aspects of reality. Compassion does not.

  5. Although if the total wages paid by employers don't increase, but only the wages of those who have a higher discounted marginal revenue product than the new, higher minimum -- those who fall below this will be fired -- then even this objective wouldn't be achieved.
