Trump Renews Call for Internet Tax

This guy is just bad news across the board.

This morning, President Trump repeated an earlier call for an internet tax.

"The internet — they're going to have to start paying sales tax because it's very unfair what's happening to our retailers all over the country that are put out of business," Trump said.

Notice, the idea that there is another option to does not appear to even be on Trump's radar: That taxes at the retail level should be cut or, better yet, eliminated.

Also of note, Amazon already collects sales tax on products it sells directly to consumers, but has faced challenges from states over its policy of allowing third-party vendors to charge varying levels of sales tax.

Trump is just a dumb statist. He will same some anti-statist things and some statist things but in the end, the state continues to grow once his handlers turn him in the direction they want things to go.

  1. Part of me thinks that is that Trump is trying to push this in order to hurt Bezos

    1. Probably not. Bezos is building fulfillment centers in most every state.Once you have a physical presence in a state you have to collect sales taxes. Collecting taxes on Internet sales is actually a way to get the little guy out of business, not the big corporation. It would be hard for a small seller to collect and distribute back to the states the taxes he collects, he just doesn't have the resources. Amazon can do that without a hiccup. This is to help, not hurt the big ones.

An absurd notion. The Internet or on line retailers are not at fault, so to justify this as a matter of fairness is straight from Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron.

  3. "state continues to grow.." In last month's tax cuts the average family gets $1,800. Not bad.

    1. "In last month's tax cuts the average family gets $1,800." Never mind that our grand-children will have to pay for printing all that money from thin air. I won't be impressed until Washington cuts overall spending. America cannot be made great again while the dollar is being destroyed by inflation and debt. Thanks to BOTH sides of the aisle for that.
