'Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe' Fails Because of New Higher Minimum Wage

Oakland's "Rudy’s Can't Fail Cafe" has closed.

A local report says workers were laid off without warning and the culprit was a rumored rent increase on top of the higher minimum wage regulations for 2018 in Oakland.

In the clip below, vlogger Zennie Abraham seems quite shocked but is correct near the end of the clip to speculate it was the new higher minimum wage that did Rudy's in.

What you are also seeing in the high minimum wage Bay Area cities such as San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley is that many restaurants and cafes either close early or close for a few hours in the afternoon so that they don't have to pay workers the high minimum wages during low traffic periods.

Many middle-of-the-city laundries close on weekends now.

Just more examples of how high minimum wages actually lower the standard of living in areas.
