Mad Micro Financial Marketing Intervention: Norwegian Style

This is just nuts.

A new proposal has gained steam among the members of Norway’s parliament, the Storting, reports ValueWalk.  It entails a curb, or possibly an outright ban on certain types of marketing. In this case, it applies to the marketing of bonus points, rebates, cashback and other types of credit card advantages.

Why would you want to do this?

I really think that interventionists just sit around thinking of sectors and they go with whatever pops in their head often without a real foundational "problem" to fix.

If credit card holders respond to bonus points, rebates, cashback. etc. what is the problem?

Interventionists are boring--then they eventually kill you.

  2. It's probably a case of one intervention begets another. These programs are probably disturbing other interventions. In that light:

What they can't tax they ban?
Someone is looking to fight the war on cash on behalf of cash?
The cashback etc on spending is being used in place of interest on savings?
Eliminate marketing where card use gets one a better and usually a good deal above zero for this era interest rate on savings?
