BREAKING: China to Raise Tariffs on $60 Billion of US Goods

The Trump-inspired economically ignorant trade war just escalated.

China plans to raise tariffs on $60 billion of US goods to as high as 25 per cent on June 1 in response to the recent 25% tariffs placed by President Trump on Chinese goods.

“China’s adjustment of tariff-adding measures is a response to US unilateralism and trade protectionism,” said China’s Ministry of Finance in a statement.

  1. For certain period of time America could allow trade war but it should remember that China is yet to show her dragons as Dinaris.Conceptually wrong approach based on neomercantalism is not sustainable and will hurt american consumers more than chinse ones.

  2. China has been stealing intellectual property and cheating on trade for years. The state owned enterprises are there to keep their proles busy so they don't overthrow the capitalistic commies they live under. When it comes to electronics, I buy used at this point. I guess I'll have to pay a buck more at Horror Freight or Wally World.

    1. Hello, EI (Economic Ignoramus),

By DEFINITION, no one cheats on trade. No one. Trade is 100% a voluntary transaction between two minds who expect to benefit from the trade ex ante. You're merely justifying Trump's own ignorance by applying yours or justifying Trump's hypocrisy when it comes to ignoring the US government's own schemes, whichever. You conflate government pro-growth policies and monetary schemes with trade itself to then attach the trade, even when the ones doing the trading are individuals and not governments. China is not 'stealing intellectual property'. A country is a thing, not a person. At most, on can say the Chinese government does nothing to crack down on intellectual property theft (or false theft, since IP is not true property) which is an odd argument considering that US and European manufacturers willingly submit their 'secrets' to their Chinese partners expecting greater benefits from the relationship. Most of the time the gripes on trade with China stems from a crass and ignorance-laden economic nationalism, nothing more.
