Prefabricated and modular housing — with homes prebuilt in factories— are now being sold on Amazon.
According to the manufacturer, the 292 sqf Lillevilla Allwood Getaway Cabin “is large enough to function as a summer house, home office or even a stand-alone retail building” and that “by adding the utility hookups this cabin can be converted to a residence.” It sells for $18,800.

In fairness, this is basically just pre-cut lumber and nails/screws/etc., as best I can tell. It does not include foundation materials or roof shingles. And you have to "assemble" it yourself.
ReplyDeleteEverything old is new again. I lived very happily in a Sears catalog log cabin in the Santa Cruz mountains for years. (raised a family there).

That's a great story. Have you ever noticed those ancient tiny shack-looking cabins in Big Sur right on the coast? I was always fascinated of their history, who owns them & how much they'd be valued at.
