VIDEO George Schultz: Trump is Doing a Terrific Job With the Economy

By Robert Wenzel

I managed to catch-up with 98-year old George Schultz on Friday at the "Strategies For Monetary Policy: A Policy Conference" held at the Hoover Institution on the campus of Stanford University.

In 1955, Schultz was a part of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Council of Economic Advisers. He was President Richard Nixon's Secretary of Labor from 1969 to 1970. In 1970, he became the first Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

In 1972, he was appointed by Richard Nixon to theSecretary of the Treasury post and held that position until 1974. From 1982 to 1989, he was Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan.

I asked him his thoughts on the current policies of President Trump. He told me that Trump was doing a terrific job with the economy but that he disagreed with Trump on immigration. He said that the country is not full as Trump has claimed. He also said that by calling himself a tariff man, Trump was actually calling himself a tax man.

Of course, my view is that the Fed is largely responsible for the current Fed manipulated boom but I do agree with Schultz on immigration and tariffs.

As can be seen from the video below, Schultz was remarkably sharp for his age. In the second clip, I ask him what he attributes his long and active life too.

Note: The reason I have my cell phone so close to Schultz's face during the entire interview is that the room was very loud and Schutz was speaking softly so I was afraid it would be difficult to pick up his voice.

As it turned out, my trusty Samsung smartphone did an excellent job of picking up the conversation.

  1. George Shultz (no "c") the Trilateralist? George Shultz the CFR member? George Shultz the One Worlder? The Devil wasn't available?

  2. May I compliment you on the courteous manner in which you conducted the interview. Although I disagree with Mr. Schultz as I believe you do on some of the issues you asked him about, you remained respectful and treated him with dignity. Something that is sorely missing in most of the mainstream media in these times! I'm curious about whether he is aware of your Austrian School of Economics and Libertarian point of view? Or if he read your brilliant speech to the Fed?
