Trump Announces Total Economic Embargo Against Venezuela

It doesn't stop with this gut, President Trump just loves economic warfare.

Late Monday he announced the US would expand its existing sanctions against Venezuela with an executive order to impose a total economic embargo against the country.

The embargo freezes assets of the government of Venezuela and associated entities and prohibits economic transactions with it, unless specifically exempted.

In a letter to Congress outlining the action Monday night, Trump said, "I have determined that it is necessary to block the property of the Government of Venezuela in light of the continued usurpation of power by the illegitimate Nicolas Maduro regime, as well as the regime's human rights abuses, arbitrary arrest and detention of Venezuelan citizens, curtailment of free press, and ongoing attempts to undermine Interim President Juan Guaido of Venezuela and the democratically-elected Venezuelan National Assembly."

Of course, an embargo is an act of war that moves in the complete opposite direction from free trade and peace among nations. The internal affairs of Venezuela should be of no concern to the U.S. The pipsqueak country is no threat to us,

Who does this guy think he is, arrogating for himself the trade decisions of tends of millions of people in this country alone---? How did we get to this place, where a President can unilaterally act on behalf of an entire country, and circumvent the U.S. Constitution, and all its checks-and-balances on Executive power, and the system of Federalism that balances Federal power with State power---?
    What a nut-job...

    1. My thoughts exactly. This is terrible, but it could get a lot worse if/when a socialist Democrat wins the Presidency.

    2. No doubt. Central-planning and intrusion into people's lives is in all Lefties's bloodstreams, and written into their DNA. And while Republicans slink and creep towards progressive government, the Democrats sprint towards it and heartily embrace it.

  4. Voting is what got the Venezuelans this socialist nightmare, so I guess Venezuela is the poster-child for "Democratic Socialism."
And funny how no matter how convinced people are that they're finally going to get the imaginary "Swedish-style" socialism, reality eventually smacks them in the face with "destitution-style" socialism.
