Senator Lamar Alexander has just announced that he will oppose President Trump's nomination of Judy Shelton to the Federal Reserve.
He joins Republican Senators Judy Collins and Mitt Romney in opposing the nomination. Since all Senate Democrats are expected to oppose the nomination. Shelton can't lose any other Republican support. As it stands now, Vice President Pence would have to break a tie with the three Republican defectors.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated last week that he would bring Shelton's nomination up for a vote this week.
As I have pointed out, Shelton is erratic in her policy pronouncements. She has at different times been pro-gold and at other times in favor of more money pumping.
But rest assured that the three Republicans opposing her nomination are establishment tools who are not concerned that she might not be pro-gold enough but rather the opposite that she might turn out to be too much in favor of sound money.
