“To Create an Illusion of Spreading the Wealth.”

Kenneth P. Vogel and Ben Smith are out with an important report at Politico on the plans of the Koch brothers to spend big money during the 2012 election cycle.

What really caught my eye, though, was this in the Politico report from a  source familiar with the Kochs’ thinking:
Groups with tighter Koch ties tend to reap more money from the pool than others, according to sources familiar with the Kochs’ philanthropy and meetings, one of whom said the Kochs typically invited a handful of groups less closely linked to them “to create an illusion of spreading the wealth.”

Co-opting on the cheap, I guess.
