In a letter to the IMF executive board late Wednesday, Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned his position at the global urganization and declared his innocence to charges he sexually attacked an NYC hotel maid.
Here is the full text of his resignation letter that was sent to the IMF:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Board:
It is with infinite sadness that I feel compelled today to present to the Executive Board my resignation from my post of Managing Director of the IMF.
I think at this time first of my wife -- whom I love more than anything -- of my children, of my family, of my friends.
I think also of my colleagues at the Fund; together we have accomplished such great things over the last three years and more.
To all, I want to say that I deny with the greatest possible firmness all of the allegations that have been made against me.
I want to protect this institution which I have served with honor and devotion, and especially--especially--I want to devote all my strength, all my time, and all my energy to proving my innocence.

"One of the most important victories of modern feminism is drawing a very clear distinction between sexual ‘‘virtue’’ and sexual assault.
The law sees no difference between raping a prostitute and raping a virgin. A husband who forces his wife to have sex commits a crime; a married woman who has an affair does not. France tolerates its philandering politicians. That has absolutely no relevance to the crime he is accused of committing in New York."
Ms. Freeland is right to a point. But she forgets that in DSK's case most of the past behavior wasn't just philandering. It was harassment of professional women by a man in authority. Quite a different thing and quite relevant to this alleged crime.
