President Obama and House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) are close enough to a debt-deficit deal that Boehner told Republican lawmakers Friday that he hoped the deal would come together soon enough for the House to consider by Wednesday of next week, according to GOP staff who were in the room.
The only thing we know for sure about any deal is that the debt ceiling will be raised, the government will spend far beyond its means and that at some point Ben Bernanke will step in and buy Treasury securities in an attempt to stop interest rates from skyrocketing.
UPDATE
The show continues. Boehner pulls out of debt ceiling talks with Obama.
UPDATE 2
Another act in the show. Obama summons Boehner, Pelosi, Reid and McConnell to White House at 11 am Saturday, saying "we have now run out of time" on debt.
