  1. Ray Mabus knows the PEU boys at Cleveland Ship LLC. Cleveland Ship has two ways of helping in the energy arena, hybrid ship propulsion systems which save fuel and offshore platforms for wind energy.

Their letter to Gov. Bobby Jindal stated "we will continue to work with the Louisiana Congressional delegation to get the absolutely essential fleet oiler legislation prepared by Senator Mary Landrieu enacted so that we can build fleet oilers for our affiliated company Cleveland Shipholding Group."

While they lost their bid for Northrup Grumman's shipyards (and their chance for vertical integration), they're still in the running for the Navy contract for new fleet oilers.

As for the wind energy slant, Gen.Wesley Clark (PEU)sits on the board of Juhl Energy,

  4. Here's another reason Ray Mabus may be at the clean energy event:

"On 16 August President Obama announced that the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Navy will invest up to $510 million by 2014 in partnership with the private sector to produce advanced “drop-in” aviation and maritime biofuels for military and commercial use."
