A New "Right" Has Emerged: The Right to a Free Cell Phone

Pennsylvanians on public assistance now have a new 'civil right' -- free cell phones, reports Abby W. Schachter at NyPo.

NyPo continues:

Recently, a federal government program called the Universal Service Fund came to the Keystone State and some residents are thrilled because it means they can enjoy 250 minutes a month and a handset for free, just because they don't have the money to pay for it...those of use paying for the free service for the poor, should be happy about this infuriating situation, says Gary Carter, manager of national partnerships for Assurance, because "the program is about peace of mind." Free cell service means "one less bill that someone has to pay, so they can pay their rent or for day care...it is a right to have peace of mind," Cater explained.
No word from central planner Matt Damon if 250 minutes is the right amount of free minutes.

  3. It means one less bill to pay because the people who are paying for this service for the poor don't have bills to pay themselves.

Good one, Gary Carter. At last, you've discovered the illusive free lunch.

  5. Of course it will need a data plan plan too so everybody can have access to the internet.

  6. I think the correct amount of minutes is the square root of the person's birthday divided by the number of minutes per year they spend thinking about the welfare of others.

  7. Perhaps the NSA should dispense 'free' cell phones to all ... A fulfillment of a 'right' and a means of deterring 'terrorism' ...

They could configure them to reduce their data collection costs ... Thus saving us billions ... !!!

    It's worse than this ...

I have a friend in my town who occasionally lived in the 'ghetto'.

He informed me that Obamamama has showered the residents with welfare programs hitherto unknown.

One of them, and I am not making this up, is to give away laptops in return for 'community service'.

No, alas, in my neighborhood ...
