"As I said in the past and will reiterate again, Ron Paul has a zero chance of winning either the nomination or the presidency," Donald Trump said in a statement in response to the Ron Paul campaign issuing a statement saying that Ron Paul would not participate in a debate hosted by Trump.,
Trump went on to say, "my poll numbers were substantially higher than any of his poll numbers, at any time."
"Few people take Ron Paul seriously and many of his views and presentation make him a clown-like candidate," he said. "I am glad he and Jon Huntsman, who has inconsequential poll numbers or a chance of winning, will not be attending the debate and wasting the time of the viewers who are trying very hard to make a very important decision."
Trump, according to Politico, referred to his book that's coming out and his claim he is worth more than $7 billion, and asked why he is "not the right person to lead this country out of economic chaos or at least to moderate a debate. I would like to see how Ron Paul would fair in the world of big business."
Two points here. First, you would have done many times better by investing in the stocks that Ron Paul holds, as reported in his Congressional disclosure statement, by a factor of plus ten, relative to the companies Trump has been associated with, many of which have filed for bankruptcy.
Further, as I have pointed out many times, being a good businessman has nothing to do with being a good economist, anymore than being an athlete in top condition has anything to do with being a medial doctor. Would Trump really want Michael Jordan to conduct liposuction on him, just because Jordan was a great athlete?

Right on, business ain't the whole world.
ReplyDeleteF U Trump!
ReplyDeleteWith comments like that from Trump, it looks like Paul and Huntsman made the right decisions to stay away. How fair do you think Trump would have been to either of them if they had agreed to show up?? Of course Newt has jumped at the chance to appear for free air time since his campaign is in deep debt.
ReplyDeleteRon Paul never had to go bankrupt. Ron Paul WAS a business person in Texas. He was a doctor. Doctors are business people. He was a very successful one as well. Ron Paul's success can be seen in his children. The legacy of Paul's family will prove real success. Trump's legacy will be that of a washed up greedy family.
ReplyDeleteOh please donald trump,I highly doubt that you ever polled higher then Ron Paul, and if you did it was because you were the flavor of the week, and looked how easy it was for you to drop out.Your running was the one that was clown like.
ReplyDeleteI find Trump the perfect representation of what America has become. Brash, bankrupt financially and morally, and full of false bravado.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to skipping a GOP debate that without Paul and Huntsman could be scripted before hand.
Assholes like Trump attacking RP are like manna from Heaven!!!
ReplyDeleteBring 'em on!!
P.S. A Trump mediated debate will look a bit like pro wrestling. Hey, maybe Linda whats-her-face from Conn. could co-host!!
We don't make serious decisions based on the opinions of a cartoon character, hair piece wearin', reality show goof.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about Ron Paul's decision to skip the debate.
ReplyDeleteObviously Trump would have been an asshole to him, that's a given. But Ron is good at deflecting these types of attacks. He's still the underdog, which means he needs all the media exposure he can get.
Especially with Cain out of the race, he probably would have gotten a decent amount of speaking time to get the message out.
So with Cain, Paul and Huntsman not attending, what are we left with, the three stooges, moderated by a reality show star. Perhaps they can add Umarosa, from the first season of the apprentice, to prevent the electorate from falling comatose.
ReplyDeleteTrump made his money by negotiating sweet tax deals on New York real estate, and doing all the kinds of business that cheap, Fed-manipulated money allows. That's why Trump is afraid of Ron Paul and his supporters. We'd kill the goose that laid his golden egg at the expense of everyone else.
ReplyDeleteAchtunG! The maniacs are at it again. They will decide for you who has a chance to be a Potus and who has not.Laws don't count here, cuz we are the LAW.The stench from lobbyists, special interest-more GOPers than less, special people's people is getting unbearable.Marxists stink from afar.It will soon spiel onto the streets. How do you keep the status quo Donald to which you belong? By building more condos in India? Holy macro.Get real Donald, the game was rigged for so long, that the casino is turning into a gulag by the minute. The chips are fake Donald. You need Ron Paul to replace the chips for real first and kick the crooks out to Mobutu.
ReplyDeleteDonald Frump: "As I said in the past and will reiterate again, Ron Paul has a zero chance of winning either the nomination or the presidency,"
ReplyDeleteWow. And this is the person who is to MODERATE a debate? Eat your words Donald Frump. You are not worthy to moderate a debate with the one and only dignified candidate for our Presidency, Dr. RONALD E. PAUL, a veteran, a doctor, delivered over 4000 babies, a congressman with an impeccable record of abiding in our Constitution and respecting the liberties of We the People.
Keep building your make believe golden empires Frumpster, good for you in making yourself rich, but YOU'RE no man to lead a presidential debate much less the seat in the oval office. Stay out of politics and the rights of the people.
Ron Paul 2012!!!!! The ONLY candidate who can lead this country in the right direction.
Paul and Huntsman should have an impromptu debate on the same night as Trump's circus show. I bet it'd get higher ratings.
ReplyDeleteI also think Ron Paul should have accepted the original invitation to the debate hosted by Trump. Having Trump as debate moderator would bring in a pretty big audience. Ron would easily be able to handle anything that Trump could dish out, and of course there's a lot to throw back at Trump if need be.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing was, Donald, how quickly the credit evaporated from years of shitty tv gameshows lasted once people started examining your dealings but, at least you had the good sense to bugger off back to some sewer in the sky, unlike our friend Herman.
ReplyDeleteBulletin: Without a hint of irony, Trump calls RP a "clown-like candidate."
ReplyDeleteTrump couldn't even handle being mocked by a very mediocre SNL comedian, and we expect him to be able to moderate a presidential debate?
ReplyDeleteTrump fell down to the single digits in iowa and NH, where RP is in double digits consistently. Trump is just pissed that someone called him on his nonsense attention whoring.
I just now saw the "big business" line by Trump. First of all, Trump has always been a well known idiot in the business world. How many times has he declared bankruptcy and lost the money of others now? He also inherited the business from his dad, who actually knew what he was doing.
ReplyDeleteRP ran a successful medical practice while managing to give free care to those who could not afford it, work out trades with those without the money, and never turn anyone down. He also has made a great deal of money off of his investments, and predicted the financial crisis -- unlike Trump, who was killed with the housing bubble collapsing.
Trump being the nation's most well known Birther, you have to wonder what Romney and Gingrich were thinking when they agreed to a debate moderated by him. It will be fodder for the left, and deservedly so.
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is a disrespectful, arrogant idiot! Go back to your Miss Universe, and stupid Apprentice shows!
ReplyDeleteIn the words of Cartman:
ReplyDelete"Suck my balls Mr Trump!"
Trump as moderator, seriously Newsmax?! The electoral cycle has hit an all-time low. This whole disgusting process is a charade and a mockery.
ReplyDeleteAh, the line between presidential debate and reality show is further blurred.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds that there's a mid-debate twist in which, for the sake of saving the nation from China (or whatever other boogeyman he dreams up by the end of December), he must reluctantly run for president?
The type of people who would actually be swayed by Ron Paul in a debate are probably NOT the type of people that want to watch a moron on like Trump anyway. In other words, smart people looking for real answers will not be tuning in to Trump to find them.
ReplyDeleteRon Paul is better off staying out of this debate.
In the mean time, he needs to keep himself busy in New Hampshire and head back to Iowa as well. Boots on the ground as they say.
Of course Dr. Paul should save that afternoon for some sort of big press announcement and steal all of the thunder so they are FORCED to bring him up in the debate and make sure his absence is conspicuous.
Donald Trump is a brilliant business man who is worth billions. That alone does not make him a wonderful person, but it shows a certain level of achievement that most people will never reach. It is hard to argue that his successes haven't outweighed his failures, and like it or not, people respect him. Ron Paul should show up and answer questions like the badass he is. It will give him the opportunity to show everyone what a pimp he is by breaking off serious knowledge on the epitome of the establishment, i.e. The Donald. Regardless, John Leguizamo sucks and annoys the hell out of me.
ReplyDelete@Anon 3:33 you say, "Ron Paul should show up and answer questions like the badass he is."
ReplyDeleteTrump has been antagonistic toward Paul all along. Trump is an Establishment troll. He got rich from Daddy and by making real estate deals using political influence. The only purpose Trump has is to discredit Paul by smear and ridicule. Paul would receive the same treatment from O'Reilly. Both of these scumbags have personal grudges with Paul... because Paul possesses the one asset neither of them will ever be able to buy, principled integrity. They know that Paul is 10x the man either of them could ever hope to become. And it pisses them off.
Mises used to say that businessmen are far better at analyzing the short run than economists and economists should let them do it. The economist's job is to convince the businessman to look up once in a while and consider the long run.
ReplyDeleteYes, Ron Paul had to be a successful businessman in order to run for office. You have to be somewhat wealthy in order to take the time off without income.
That's the level of class we've come to expect from Trump.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure originally about Ron Paul's decision to pull out of the debate, however, I believe Ron Paul is a far sharper politician than most people give him credit for. So, with that in mind, I was looking for the "angle," and I think I might know what it is.
ReplyDeleteI think Ron Paul's strategy is "Iowa, or bust." Not necessarily 1st, but at least a strong second. I think the emphasis he's been placing on Trump's screwing over the Republican Party of Iowa on their fundraiser means he's trying to build more solidarity with the Party. He's probably heard a lot of very bad feeling toward Trump from the insiders in Iowa and saw this as an opportunity to let them know he'll stand with them.
Why are we even taking Trump seriously on any thing? He is just another status-quo statist bastard.
ReplyDeleteI want to see Ron Paul, and John Huntsman's birth certificates!
ReplyDelete
