The following statement by Ron Paul was issued by his campaign:
The police state in this country is growing out of control. One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our children, our seniors, and our loved ones and neighbors with disabilities. The TSA does all of this while doing nothing to keep us safe.
That is why my ‘Plan to Restore America,’ in additional to cutting $1 trillion dollars in federal spending in one year, eliminates the TSA.
We must restore the freedom and respect for liberty that once made American the greatest nation in human history. I am deeply committed to doing that as President of the United States.
Senator Rand Paul was detained for a period this morning at Nashville Airport.
It would be much more effective than protesting patdowns(which I think is not helpful for the libertarian cause) to support some sort of profiling at our airports. Israel does this and for 20 years has had no hijackings.
ReplyDeleteThe average person is shamed into keeping quiet about what would probably resonate if someone had the guts to talk about it: "why are we patting down caucausion white women? Why are we having grandma and the 8 year old girl take off their shoes?"
Asking those questions, not this ridiculous indignation over patdowns would be much more effective. The TSA is not the enemy. Its the orwellian pc-culture which chills any discussion of issues like profiling.
Simple fix: privatize airline/airport security.

ReplyDeleteYou are making the assumption that the TSA is designed to keep air flights safe. Another stream of thought is that the TSA is there to intimidate law abiding citizens. The evidence of TSA actions seems to suggest this is true.
As Joseph Fetz says, let the airlines handle it. Let them decide the rules in which people will board the plane, and the customers will decide what level of security they are able to tolerate. Perhaps the airlines will have armed security aboard (that would have stopped 9/11 for sure). Perhaps some airlines will exclude certain groups of people. Every traveler will have multiple options open to them. If the TSA think they can compete, privatize them and lets see if people will pay to have their junk groped or breasts fondled.

All of those planes could be flown from the ground like drones.
Go look up: Homerun software and the make and model of the planes.
