Politico has an insider report that informs:
There have been months of previously unreported, behind-the-scenes phone calls and meetings between Romney and Paul acolytes to try to build bridges and reach compromise agreements...
The seeds of a Romney-Paul detente were already evident during the GOP primary contests, when both men were loathe to attack one another, playing for the end game that is the convention. There was some behind-the-scenes coordination, with both men recognizing that they needed each other...
Paul campaign manager John Tate and campaign chairman Jesse Benton negotiated with Romney confidantes Ben Ginsberg and Ron Kaufman about how to handle the contested delegations...
The Republican National Committee hired Paul campaign press secretary Gary Howard in June as “special projects director.” He’s worked the halls this week helping his new bosses...

Let's leave politics to the pros and take it to the streets.
Oooops, I didn't really mean that. I'm perfectly sane. Honest. I hate guns. I support the troops. AND the local police. Honest...
Hello, Capn Mike?
DeleteHi, this is Sargent McBootstomp with the police. We're gonna concerned for your well being and need to take you in for a 'psychological evaluation' to make sure you're OK.
So that's John Tate, Jesse Benton, and Gary Howard huh? If you can't beat 'em join 'em I guess. What a bunch of sellouts.
ReplyDeleteYou even see that among the voters. Even knowing about sound money and the Fed and everything some people still figure Romney is less bad than Obama. Politics are strange.
It was fun while it lasted. In many ways these crumbs are more than expected, but I feel sad over such small victories, especially considering all the passion of the last few years. At least I have Prince Harry to cheer me up.
ReplyDelete"The few who understand the system will either be so interested in its profits or so dependent on its favors that there will be no opposition from that class, while on the other hand, the great body of the people mentally incapable of comprehending the tremendous advantage that capital derives from the system will bear its burdens without complaint and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical to their interests." ReplyDeleteIf you can't lick 'em, lick their boots...
ReplyDeleteI think Ron Paul is sincere (unlike his misbegotten son Rand), but he chose slimy campaign managers, who were working for the other side.
