Why You Need a Passport Now!

At a future point, it may be impossible to get one.

PapersPlease.org reports on what the State Department is planning for future passport applicants:

The new U.S. passport application forms are back, worse than ever.
Ignoring massive public opposition, and despite having recently admitted that it is already using the “proposed” forms illegally without approval, the State Department is trying again to get approval for a pair of impossible-to-complete new passport application forms that would, in effect, allow the State Department to deny you a passport simply by choosing to send you either or both of the new “long forms”.
Early last year, the State Department proposed a new “Biographical Questionnaire” for passport applicants, which would have required anyone selected to receive the new long-form DS-5513 to answer bizarre and intrusive personal trivia questions about everything from whether you were circumcised (and if so, with what accompanying religious rituals) to the dates of all of your mother’s pre- and post-natal medical appointments, your parents’ addresses one year before you were born, every address at which you have ever resided, and your lifetime employment history including the names and phone numbers of each of your supervisors at every job you have ever held.
Most people would be unable to complete the proposed new form no matter how much time and money they invested in research. Requiring someone to complete Form DS-5513 would amount to de facto denial of their application for a passport — which, as we told the State Department, appeared to be the point of the form.
The State Department’s notice of the proposal in the Federal Register didn’t include the form itself. After we published the proposed Form DS-5513, the story went viral and more than 3,000 public comments objecting to the proposal were filed with the State Department in the final 24 hours of the comment period.
After that fiasco, the State Department went dark for several months, and claimed that they would “revise” the form. But they didn’t give up, and apparently they didn’t listen to (or didn’t care) what they had been told by members of the public in our comments.
The State Department is now seeking approval for a (slightly)revised Form DS-5513 as well as a new Form DS-5520, also for passport applicants, containing many of the same questions.
The State Department no longer wants you to tell the passport examiner about the circumstances of your circumcision, but does still want to know the dates and locations of all of your mother’s pre- and post-natal medical appointments, how long she was hospitalized for your birth, and a complete list of everyone who was in the room when you were born. The revised forms no longer ask for all the addresses at which you have lived, but only for those addresses you are least likely to know: all the places you lived from birth until age 18.
And so on, as you can see for yourself on the proposed Form DS-5513 and Form DS-5520.

  2. I'm confused. Form DS-5520 linked to doesn't ask for residences up to 18. It does as for the last five residences. DS-5520 seems rather benign relative to DS-5513. Still, if I can produce a birth certificate, why should it be necessary.

  3. I am all for less government intrusion, but reading this and the documents does not really match up.

Yes, the DS-5513 asks for residences from birth to age 18, but the DS-5520 form asks for the "past 5 residences" only.

The neonatal information is only required for non-institutional (ie. hospital) births and those whose birth was not recorded for over one year.

  7. If this article is true, these questions require more information than the form I filled out for a Top Secret, Special Access clearance.

  8. What if you have a passport...but need to renew. Do you still need to do all this nonsense? Or is renewing easier?

    1. I certainly hope it is not required to renew. I've renewed my passport outside of the US the last two times.
And I have not lived in the USA since 1995 and do not really plan to return for any reason.

  9. None of this is necessary, useful or practical; we have "home-grown" terrorists (think McVeigh) who could list all this information and still be a danger to themselves or those around them.
All this is about is CONTROL: let's make travel more difficult so the people cannot ESCAPE our draconian rules, regulations and codes. If that makes it tough for some "business" travelers to manage, well that's just a cost of being an American, as the noose slowly tightens on our rope around your neck...

  10. Thank you for the posting. The forms will be required when the applicant has provided "insufficient evidence of identity" (5520) or "insufficient evidence of entitlement" (5513). Those categories might not apply to the typical citizen, but might be invoked for somebody trying to live "outside the grid" or born and raised in a hut somewhere. It would be nice to see some reporting of when those conditions are likely to apply, or to what extent the new forms really represent a change in policy.

That said, I would prefer to live in a world without state-controlled borders, where passports would be unnecessary.

    1. My son just spent 6 years in the U.S. Air Force. And They made him fill out that new form! So don't give me this crap about insufficient evidence of entitlement!

  11. Will Obama have to fill one out? Could get some answers we have been looking for! Beyond that it is silly and impossible to verify. Why not just be honest and say we will have a panel that decides who comes and goes.

    2. Chidogo it is good that GOD gave you a special brain:

      And you vote!

What about people not born in hospitals? I wasn't and there are lots people not born in hospitals. Maybe I am lucky to even have a birth certificate. And there is no possible way I could answer all of those other questions. However fortunate for me I have a passport and have had one since the 60's. At one time in my life I did have enough information to obtain a top security clearance though...haha...

    3. Sure, just make up data. OK so then they put you in jail for perjury. Then a passport will do you no good anyway.

Stop the world, I wanta get off

    4. Anonymous: last line b4 u signs says, "to the best of my knowledge" so perjury can not happen unless u intentionally write in something crazy

  13. Does anyone think Obama would qualify for a passport under these circumstances?

    1. Barry and his minions should be required to complete the forms and the information must be verifiable. I would sure love to see that!

  15. Just play the game. Make up phone numbers, addresses, dates and so forth. How are they going to know themselves? You can always say this is the info I have.

  16. The new passports have RFID chips containing all the information shown in your passport book, included your photo. If you get a one of new passports remember to wrap it in aluminum foil to defeat transmission of your info to theives.

  17. Ah yes, positive vetting for the masses! Gosh, all those secrets that will now be available to the ignorant masses!

  18. This gets worse, the older you get and the more you move around, and the more schools you have gone to; and the lack of information concerning parents, foster homes; any transient phases some folks go through etc.....by the time you're in your 60's (age) and up.....without have known that you need this info...address, dates, locations, etc.....It is impossible to fill out truthfully. Then they get you on some technical inconsistency years later on purgery should the case arise (assuming you even get the forms completed and actually get a passport)...ughhhh!!!

Illegal aliens don't have to worry....they don't use passports anyway, don't even have to produce proper ID and still can get services in virtually every state and every major city.....what's wrong with this picture??? We need a new administration!

  19. More control to keep us from leaving our once great country now a controlling gov to be feared, Permits for everything, taxes on everything you earn or make and don't dare be too successful or they will take more than half and give it to the less motivated, lazy ones or they take it and give it to their commie friends and the banksters. When will people wake up? Most likely never until this country falls then they will say how could this happened.

    Once proud American.

  20. This is a bit silly, because you can't testify to your mother's pre-natal appointments, because you weren't born yet.

In a court, you would never be allowed to provide witness to events which occurred before your birth.

This is either a hoax or the government is a lot dumber than I thought.

  21. Thanks for the warning. I'll see what I can do. Normalcy bias will prevent a lot of people from taking necessary action before it is too late... before state borders are closed and NORTHCOMM is controlling access to all the major river bridges. Step aside, please, your papers are not perfectly in order...

  23. Yep, I got my passport in 2006, it was time to Renew it and got hit with form 5520, never meet my parents and was raised in Mexico. Now they want me to provide addresses and school diplomas when I never attended junior high. Smh
