A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.
To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses.Yes, we are developing into a crony-control state. You will be monitored and do what you are told, including more licenses and fees. While crony-corporate America gets fatter and fatter off the masses.
On a further note, I consider the registration of guns, nearly as troubling as the prohibition of guns. If guns are to be used in the case of a government that gets out of hand and become totalitarian, the last thing you want is such a totalitarian government to have a list of who owns guns.
Back in the early 60s, I purchased a Colt 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol from a magazine ad via the mail. It came packed in cosmoline and was parkerized. It cost $35.00. It was purchased by the seller from military surplus and was brand new. Various gun related magazines always had multiple ads like the one I used.
ReplyDeleteThere was no requirement for background checks or registration. We have come a long way since then and in the exactly wrong direction.
Back in 1968, LBJ's folks got the big three handgun makers on board by putting restrictions on foreign imports. This is nothing new in a country that has had crony capitalists since the early nineteenth century at least.
ReplyDeleteThis was done in 1968 by luring the domestic manufacturers with preferential treatment over imports. This is not a surprise and may actually work again.
ReplyDeleteTime for everyone to call, email, and write their senators and congressmen and let them know there will be hell to pay if any of these new gun laws are passed. That is our best bet at this point.
ReplyDeleteBush was able to sign the import ban on rifles like the AKs and FALs in 1989 because Colt and domestic companies went along with it as they were tired of having to face cheaper competition with self loading rifles. That is 100% fact. Not to mention Clinton had deals with S&W and Colt, but popular uprisings and boycotting by the public forced those deals to be canceled.
ReplyDelete"key law enforcement leaders"
ReplyDeleteYou would think the left who pretends to be against police brutality would be screaming like banshees when the government wishes to give its gang bangers more power. Just another reason why cops and their law and order bootlickers are scum
