Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak shouts, “Nobody wants to buy a computer! Nobody!” To which Kutcher/Jobs dramatically replies, “How does somebody know what they want if they’ve never even seen it?”
In my opinion, Bill Gates was twice the businessman that Steve Jobs was. Apple's more recent success is indisputable and has been tremendous to society, don't get me wrong, but I get sick of the nonstop worship of Jobs by society and the essential denigration of Bill Gates.
Say what you will about the "brilliance" of Mr. Jobs and all he has done, but Bill Gates was one of the most shrewd businessmen of the 20th century. He brought us the modern computer interface, software, hardware, and revolutionized even the video gaming industry. The man consistently brought us a higher quality product at a lower price, over and over.
Apple is great, but they consistently have charged higher prices for their MacBook computers for performance that honestly is not that much better than that of the PC. PC's provide far more capabilities, just as good quality, at a fraction of the price. Windows forever changed the way computers were used, and while the commonly used talking point is that Bill Gates "stole" Steve Jobs' ideas the truth is that Apple could only become what it is in the early 21st century due to the incredible work of Microsoft in the 1980s and 1990s.
Microsoft's innovation, and eventual bull**** anti-trust case in 1998 where Bill Gates was ripped to shreds for being an "evil capitalist", is the primary reason our computer software/hardware industry is where it is. Say what you will about Microsoft and Apple, but when it comes to being a pure competitive and capitalist business there is no company in that industry that rivals Microsoft.
Microsoft was involved in anti-trust, but not for the reasons to government said. Patents and Copyrights are in and of themselves government granted monopoly privileges.
supply creates its own demand...
ReplyDeleteAh, the strawman version (thanks to Keynes) of Say's Law.

DeleteNoah Wiley as Jobs in "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" should be be re-released. It was probably better than anything Kutcher is in.
