Fascinating: Net Migration Between California and Other States:

4 comments:

  1. It would be nice to have the TIME FRAME. Plus the CA to NY arrow seems to be backwards. Of course, many states are not included. Finally the total and NET CA domestic (between states) emigration should be included.

Good concept and interesting points, but inadequately presented.

No, I can imagine a net flow from New York to California in the late 1990s to work in Silicon Valley and Hollywood, both of which were booming.

    2. It's not backwards. If you read the legend the NY to CA arrow is for the timeframe 1995 to 2000. Basically the map is saying, back in the old days, everyone came to CA. Now from 1995 to 2000, everyone is leaving CA and the only people dumb enough to go to CA are New Yorkers.

  2. Internet glitch.
I guess taxes and regulations trump weather every time.
    (speaking as an ex-Californian).

BTW, the state motto of Oregon (besides "Go Ducks!) is "Don't Californicate Oregon!"
