BLEG: Google Chrome Crashing Problem

On my new Windows 8 computer, Google chrome is crashing on me every 10 minutes or so. I think it is related to when I visit a web page that has Flash on it, but I am not sure.

I have re-installed both Google chrome and Shockwave, but the problem persists.

I use this computer strictly for blogging and don't go to unusual sites, pretty much the same sites I go to everyday. I have Norton installed at it isn't indicating any viruses.

Any ideas out there on how to resolve the problem?

  1. This is just a shot in the dark, but problems with Chrome's flash plug-in have been reported, and this may be your the cause of your problem. You can disable the plug-in and still have flash enabled in the browser so long as you have Adobe's flash player installed. To disable Chrome's native flash plug-in, go to the Chrome plug-ins page by entering chrome://plugins in the address bar. Locate the Adobe Flash Plug-in on the page. There should be two plug-ins listed, you will want to disable the plug-in that ends in \pepflashplayer.dll.

    Good luck.

  2. Agreed... Give it a go Bob. If you haven't used it before, then like most people who use Windows a lot in my experience, they think it's gonna be impossible to learn something new. When they actually have a go, they realise there's nothing to it... it's just a matter of figuring out which software to use.

And just think... without all the anti-spyware, anti-virus, anti-diallers etc. running you'll actually end up with a much faster machine. Oh.. and the multiple desktops are so useful you'll wonder how you ever managed with one!

If you're still hesitant, dual-boot it, so you have windows as a fall back.

  4. There are at least two very easy fixes, but given your feelings on IP they would be of no use to you.

  5. Call the NSA, they're bringing their new data processing center on line and experiencing some "glitches" uploading your personal information to the DHS, IRS, and the White House.

  6. Clearing your cache might help. I know it can fix some Firefox problems. Maybe some files get corrupted?

  7. Thanks everyone for your solutions. What seems to have worked for me is when I deleted my Google browser profile that comes with Windows 8 and created a new profile. This solution works to solve the crashing problem, but be aware that it did result in my losing all my tabbed bookmarks. So make sure you save your bookmarks, before you take these steps.

Here are the steps you need to take.

Make sure your Google browser is closed.

In the internet explorer browser(download it if you don't have it) enter this code in the top address box:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\

Hit enter. It will take you to a page of files. Delete the "Profile" file, Possibly "Profile 1" or something else if you gave your profile a different name.

Then open your Goggle browser and a new Profile will be created for you. And hopefully your Google Chrome crash problems are gone.

    Good luck!
