Crime Trend Sees Robbery Victims Locked In Own Trunks

CBS4 Miami  reports that, in the past two months in the city of North Miami, gunmen have been forcing robbery victims in to the trunks of their cars while trying to get cash.

North Miami Police Major Neal Cuevas says he is worried about “copycat criminals” who may one day take a life.

“I hope something like this never happens to me again,” said Victor. “But kind of like the way we would prepare for a hurricane, there are some things we should think about such as always having a towel, a bottle of water and even a cell phone in the trunk of your car. And everyone should know where the emergency release button is in your car. That is critical.”

  1. In a related story, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation has reported the first "copycat" case. Gunmen robbed an elephant and locked it in its trunk.

“I hope something like this never happens to me again,” said Jumbo. “But kind of like the way we would prepare for a circus performance, there are some things we should think about such as always having a bale of hay, a mud hole, and even a mahout in your trunk. And everyone should know where the emergency release button is under your tail. That is critical."

  2. A lot of the new cars they're making now give you the ability to open the trunk from the inside. When I first saw this about a year and a half ago, I thought it was really interesting but probably not very useful. "Cmon, that just happens in the movies and Kanye West music videos, right?" Haha, apparently I might be wrong about that.
