Speaker Boehner's Office: Obamacare Is A Train Wreck

Wow, if the House Speaker is coming out this aggressively against ObamaCare, maybe there is a chance it can be killed. The below appeared at the website of House Speaker John Boehner.

…why are health care costs “about to explode”?  The nation’s insurers say premiums will skyrocket under ObamaCare – by an average of double in the individual market, with some rates soaring by more than 400 percent. 

…why is it causing so many workers to lose their jobs and hours?  Many employers “have slashed jobs or reduced workweeks below 30 hours” to reduce the sting of ObamaCare: one recent search found that at least 16,500 workers have already had their hours cut on account of the new law.  This “part-time America” trend has prompted the heads of three major unions to pen a “scathing open letter” to Democratic leaders warning that ObamaCare threatens to “destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.” 

…why are millions of Americans set to lose their insurance plans?  Though the president promised that “if you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan,” many people will receive cancellation noticesbecause of the new law.

…why do Americans want no part of it?  Despite taxpayer-funded PR blitzes and assurances the public would like the health care law once it took effect, Americans “are more convinced than ever” that ObamaCare will be bad for themselves and the country.  Things have gotten so bad that the administration tried to get the NFL to help promote the law. 

…why isn’t the administration advertising the law’s most central provision?  POLITICO reported over the weekend that the “coast-to-coast campaign to get people to sign up for Obamacare is light on mentions” of the law’s individual mandate, widely considered to be the law’s linchpin.  Given “its central role to how well the law can work," the paper added, "you might think the requirement for people to have insurance would play a large role in outreach and education.” 

…and why is the Obama administration delaying the law’s employer mandate altogether?  “I wonder why the president himself is delaying various parts of it,” Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said shortly after Sen. Reid’s comments.  “He, you could argue, is not executing or implementing the law that he thinks is such a wonderful thing for the country.”

The answer to all of these, of course, is that ObamaCare is by no means wonderful for the country.  It’s a “huge train wreck,” for workers, schools, low-income families, small businesses,supermarkets, burger joints, hospitals, retirees, local governments – you name it.

That’s why, as Speaker Boehner announced on Thursday, the people’s House will vote this week on back-to-back bills to delay both ObamaCare’s employer mandate and individual mandate, providing relief to all Americans.  “It’s unfair to protect big businesses from ObamaCare, but not individuals and families,” he said.  You can read the bills – sponsored by Reps. Tim Griffin (R-AR) and Todd Young (R-IN) – here.  

Indeed, if ObamaCare is so wonderful that the employer mandate needs to be delayed, why not delay the individual mandate too?  Fair is fair, after all.
