Plagiarism and Rand Paul's Toupee: There is a connection

I am not making this up. NPR reports:
Even taken together, the charges didn't seem to amount to that big a deal — just a matter of quoting a few factual statements and a Wikipedia passage without attributing them. But as Rand Paul discovered, the word "plagiarism" can still rouse people to steaming indignation. Samuel Johnson called plagiarism the most reproachful of literary crimes, and the word itself began as the name of a real crime. In Roman law, a plagiarius was someone who abducted a child or a slave — it's from "plaga," the Latin word for a net or a snare. That connection was first drawn by the first-century poet Martial, who accused a rival he called Fidentius of stealing his works to garner undeserved praise. Martial compared Fidentius to a man who wears a toupee [...]

  1. How much does a 2000 year old toupee cost?

  2. And now Rand Paul is being pilloried for a couple of similar offenses — particularly for a speech in which he quoted verbatim the Wikipedia plot synopsis of the 1997 movie Gattaca without attributing it.

That's terrible. It's far worse than Saudi Arabia enticing France to scuttle peace talks with Iran in part to keep oil prices high, don't you think?

As Marcy Wheeler pointed out, Saudi Arabia is behind this successful sabotage: the French hope to take advantage of the Kingdom’s recent tantrum over the aborted Syria strike – and the prospect of a peaceful settlement with Iran, which they abhor – by selling the Saudis expensive weapons system Riyadh would otherwise have purchased from the US. Follow the money: if Iranian oil is allowed to come on the market, unobstructed by sanctions, Riyadh risks losing their hegemonic position in the oil market.

It's also worse than Obama drone killing Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Hakimullah Mehsud to scuttle peace talks there.

Does Rand Paul have no shame?

    1. Funny, after this follow the money foreign policy rant I wonder if it was meant in psuedo defense of Rand. Especially as he calls for a strong military and further strengthening Israeli war relations. Does he have no shame?

    2. Flynt Leverett tells Scott Horton that the USA refuses to even acknowledge in writing that Iran has the right to an internationally inspected civilian nuclear program which John Kerry himself acknowledged in 2009. Rand Paul should be trumpeting this stuff instead of groveling to the Israel firsters.

The hard core evangelical dispensationalists are not going to support him and he's offending those who might have been supporters who reject the dispensationalists.

    1. Agreed! If this website sinks any lower it will need an excavator to dig the septic tank deeper. The flip side of this hate Rand Paul nonsense is the creepy and childish worship of his father. I like Ron Paul but he is barely a footnote in this countries political life and now that he is out of office his very modest relevance is diminishing rapidly.

$10 bucks a month to watch The Ron Paul Channel? Who thought up that marketing disaster. How do you spread the libertarian message by getting a few thousand rabid followers to subscribe to a website whose message they already believe?

Wenzel, get a life! Ron Paul isn't The Messiah and his son isn't Beelzebub.
