Rand Paul’s Statement on the Legacy of South African President Nelson Mandela

Rand on the violent terrorist and communist:
Nelson Mandela not only changed history, his call for tolerance, peace and acceptance changed the minds of people across the globe. The indelible mark he left on his country and the world will serve as an example of rightness and perseverance for humanity for all time.

  1. Hey Rand, the Politically-correct establishment left something on your chin.

  2. Fortunately, Mandela cannot be raised from the dead. Therefore, this inconceivable adulation of a man that really did nothing but run a banana republic for a term will dwindle and be forgotten in history with the passing current generations. Whereas, somebody as Ron Paul or Rothbard who educates and makes sense and is logical, will have his legacy continue into the depths of time. As of now, we just have to endure this silliness by politicians and celebrities who are nothing but "capitalists" with their careers.

    1. You have just shown us all that you only see skin color and nothing else. Of course you have no evidence he is racist, and of course you have never listened to what he says about racism. You (Jerry Wolfgang) just see a white person that you don't agree with and make the empty assertion that he is racist. Funny thing is your opinion is based only on race (the definition of racism).

  4. Hey Bob, honest question, why are you bagging so much on Nelson Mandela when you've been willing to stick up for Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in the past? (see: http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2012/09/new-york-rabbis-meet-with-mahmoud.html). I mean sure, Mandela was a terrorist and a communist but he was resisting a repressive regime nominally allied with the West. While I abhor both terrorism and communism, I can understand why he would turn to them in the context of the time. More importantly though, the majority of praise Mandela is receiving is for the peaceful reconciliation fostered in the aftermath of apartheid. Meanwhile, Ahmedinejad was actually in a position of substantial power within a repressive regime when you wrote the post above that tried to defend him against the idea that he is anti-semitic (which he most obviously is). Does Mandela's past sins negate the good he did later in life? Or is the Mandela-basing just a knee-jerk desire to criticize anyone in favor in Washington while defending anyone the U.S. government opposes no matter how terrible?

    1. Oh please, wake me up when Clinton, Bush and Obama fly to Ahmedinejad's funeral and fawn all over his "greatness." All government leaders are evil, the more a leader is brought to the forefront as great, the more the truth about that leader needs to be made clear.

As for my post, it was reporting a fact. Hardly,"sticking up" for Ahmadinejad.

You're a damn propagandist and distortionist.

    2. So is just that Clinton, Bush, and Obama need to say favorable things about Ahmedinejad to generate multiple posts highlighting his evils? What about when Mandela was fighting against the government? I mean, I certainly disagree with the means by which he did so (terrorism/communism), but again, he was fighting against a particularly odious government. Does his resistance to government oppression redeem him in your eyes? Or does the fact that he eventually held a position of government leadership at all damn him for life? Or, again, is just the fact that American leaders praise him that makes him so worthy of criticism for you?

Also, you link favorably to Walter Block on regular basis. He has referred to Vladimir Putin as a "hero". Since all government leaders are evil, what is your opinion on Professor Block's support for a fairly repressive government leader such as Putin?
