BREAKING Conservative Political Commentator Dinesh D'Souza Arrested by the FBI

This looks very politically motivated.

What you need to know:

In 2012, D'Souza released 2016: Obama's America, a film based on his 2010 book The Roots of Obama's Rage,  which argues that Barack Obama's attitude toward America derives from his father's anti-colonialism and from a psychological desire to fulfill his father's dream of diminishing the power of Western imperial states. The film has been the highest grossing conservative political film produced in the United States.

Dylan Byers explains what just went down (my highlight)
Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative author and political commentator, was arrested and indicted on charges of campaign finance fraud on Thursday.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office said that D'Souza made "illegal contributions to a United States Senate campaign in the names of others" and "[caused] false statements to be made to the Federal Election Commission in connection with those contributions.”

The U.S. Senate campaign in question is that of Wendy Long, who ran on the Republican and Conservative party tickets against New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the 2012 election. Long won just 27 percent of the vote.

The indictment, which can be viewed here, alleges that D'Souza made or caused more than $10,000 worth of campaign contributions under the names of others. It also states that he willfully and knowingly submitted false reports about the amounts and sources of those contributions[...]

Attorney Bharara's office said the Indictment was "the result of a routine review by the FBI of campaign filings with the FEC by various candidates after the 2012 election for United States Senator in New York."
UPDATE (6:55 p.m.): Benjamin Brafman, an attorney for D'Souza, tells The Hollywood Reporter that his client "did not act with any corrupt or criminal intent whatsoever ... at worst this was an act of misguided friendship by D'Souza."

  1. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that of the millions of campaign donations given to politicians the last election cycle, the needle the in the haystack they found just so happened to be one of the President's main detractors.

  2. Preet Bharara seems to be trying to make a name for himself by busting other Indians. Sort of like Giuliani.

  3. Does he have a good lawyer? Most of the time when I see a criminal charge I see no admission of anything and a junkyard attack.

Charge: destroyed public property on loan.

Response: I never borrowed that property, it was destroyed before I got it and it was in perfect condition when I returned it.

The prosecution must prove every element of any crime beyond a reasonable doubt. Why would any lawyer concede an element???? The first word from the lawyer's mouth should be "he did not do it".

    1. The government has unlimited legal resources. This means that you might be right but will run out of money and go bankrupt by defending yourself. It forces even innocent people to plea a deal. With all of the thousands of pages of rules and regulations , it is very easy for the government to implement the strategy proposed by Stalin's secret police , "Show me the man and I'll find you the crime"

  4. Maybe D'Souza will learn to NEVER voluntarily get involved with Fed.gov to begin with.

  7. Sometimes payback's a bitch. Despite some worthy writings in other areas, D'Souza has long been a mouthpiece for the GOP-national security/warfare state. He put his faith in princes and, in so doing, forgot that princes make the rules. Those same rules came back to bite him.

I suppose I wish him well. I wish only that, whatever the "legal" outcome here, he has learned his lesson.

  9. Well, if you don't want this kind of thing to happen, then don't give money to politicians.
